Govt, google to work on Loon project to provide internet connectivity: Prasad

Communication and IT Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad today said that the government and google have in-principal agreed to work on Loon project for providing Internet connectivity by using large balloons. The project will be started as pilot project. Taking to reporters after meeting with Google CEO Sunder Pichai in New Delhi, Mr Prasad said, government is quite open to the idea of loon project to expand Internet connectivity in the country.<br/><br/> He informed that BSNL will be partner with the project. On security issues, the Minister said he has directed the IT secretary to coordinate with the security agencies to expedite the process. The Minister also informed that google will also partner with the Common Service Center, CSC and Internet Sathi programme to expand Internet programme in 3 lakh villages particularly for women training. <br/><br/>The Minister also requested Mr Pichai to partner in the promotion of Indian language digitally. Mr Sunder Pichai told reporters that, google will be happy to partner with Common Service Center, CSC along with Internet Sathi programme. He also said the google is focused on bringing google products in many more Indian languages.
