The government has constituted an inter-ministerial group to consider the demand of special status to Bihar.In a written reply to the Lok Sabha, Minister of State for planning Ashwani Kumar said a delegation from Bihar has presented a memorandum to the Prime minister in July this year. He said the inter-ministerial group will examine the memorandum.Mr. Kumar informed the House there are 11 special category states namely Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, Tripura and Uttarakhand.He, however, informed that Odisha, Goa and Rajasthan's request for special category status has not been found feasible.AIR correspondent reports, the status of special category state has been granted in the past by the National Development Council to some states that are characterised by a number of features including hilly and difficult terrain, low population density and economic and infrastructural backwardness.
