The Government has constituted a committee to examine the validity of scientific and statutory basis adopted for approval of new drugs without clinical trials. The Health Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad has set up the committee. The three-member committee includes Secretary of Indian Council for Medical Research, Dr. V.M.Katoch and President National Brain Research Centre, Dr. P.N.Tandon.

The committee which has been asked to submit its report within two months, will suggest steps to instituionalise improvements in other procedural aspects of functioning of Central Drugs Standard Control Organisation.
