Govt forms committee to enquire into cause of faults in Airport Express Metro line

The Government has set up a two member committee to enquire into the cause of the faults in the Airport Express Metro line. Briefing newsmen at Nirman Bhavan today, Urban Development Secretary, Mr. Sudhir Krishna said, 540 out of the 2100 bearings were found to be most affected and have been taken for further examination. He said the Joint inspection team comprising of officials of the Railways, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation and the Operator Reliance infra conducted the inspection and a report was submitted today.

Mr. Sudhir Krishna said, all efforts are being made to stick to the deadline and restart the operations of the Airport express Metro line by the end of August.

He said, the shortcomings in the Airport Metro Rail track, whether due to construction faults or by wear and tear, will be rectified and the safety aspect of the metro line will not be compromised. He said, the onus of responsibility for the faults will be decided after the report is received.

Mr. Krishna said, contrary to rumours, the Reliance Infra is committed to continue operations of the Airport Express Metro line.

Meanwhile, the Delhi Road Transport Corporation has also begun operation of more frequent Buses from Dhaula Kuan to the Airport to meet the passenger rush due to the shutdown of the Airport Express Metro line.
