The Health and Family Welfare Minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad has said that the government will seriously think over the proposal for finalising a stipulated time limit for display of the statutory pictorial warnings on cigarette and beedi packs. Talking to reporters outside Parliament, he said the government is also aware of the revenue losses due to stoppage of production by Indian Tobacco Company (ITC). He said the government generates revenue to the tune of 30 to 35 thousand crores of rupees every year on this account. The Minister said the government is also concerned over the unemployment problems of the beedi workers and tobacco farmers in the country.
