The Centre has decided to go for compulsory auditing of Mahatma Gandhi national Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme by Chartered Accountants appointed by CAG. It has been decided to go for physical verification of at least 10 to 15 percent of work orders and expenditure details of works under MGNREGA.
Union Minister of Rural Development, Mr Jairam Ramesh, told media persons at Bhubaneswar that the decision will be implemented from the current financial year. He said the move will bring more transparency and accountability in the MGNREGA Scheme. 99,000 crore rupees will be spent on rural development, water supply and sanitation in the current financial year.
Expressing concern over the non-development of Maoist-affected districts, the Minister said, the Centre has decided to allocate 30 crore rupees per district to all the 78 Left Wing Extremists affected districts under the Integrated Action Plan project this year.
