Health Minister J P Nadda today said that the government is not in favour of commercial surrogacy in order to prevent exploitation of poor and illiterate women in the name of surrogacy. In a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, Mr Nadda said government is very much aware of precarious condition of poor women being lured to surrogacy. <br/><br/>He informed the House that the Commerce Ministry has issued a notification banning the import of human embryos except for research purposes. Besides, Home Ministry has also issued directions not to grant visa to foreign nationals including Overseas Citizen of India intending to visit India for surrogacy.
