Govt favours ‘energy efficient buildings’ to tackle climate change

Government has strongly advocated constructing energy efficient buildings to address the growing challenge of climate change. <br/> <br/>Speaking at GRIHA national conference in New Delhi on Monday the Minister for New and Renewable Energy Dr. Farooq Abdullah urged builders and corporate sector to extend their cooperation in construction of energy efficient structures. <br/> <br/>He said it will be mandatory for the buildings being constructed by the government to be environment friendly. <br/> <br/>Expressing concern over global warming, Dr. Abdullah said that the country needs sustainable building designs to ensure that architectural elements and the engineering system are in cohesion. <br/> <br/>AIR correspondent adds that the conference now in session aims at evolving a rating system to help design green buildings and evaluate them. <br/>
