With the onset of South-West monsoon, the government expects sowing operations to gain momentum that will lead to higher production this year after two successive droughts. Agriculture Secretary Shobhana K Patnaik said the monsoon is arriving at almost the same time as India Meteorological Department predicted. <br/><br/>He said they are hopeful and optimistic that there will be higher sowings and a very good production this year. Stating that the government has constructed large number of water harvesting structures for storage of water, the Secretary said the above normal monsoon would fill these reservoirs that will be helpful for the farmers. He added the government had already announced the higher Minimum Support Price.
