Government has decided to extend the sale of non subsidized 5-kg cooking gas (LPG) cylinders at petrol pumps across the country. Earlier it was sold only in Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Bengaluru. The Oil Marketing companies have also been allowed to include Petrol Stations other than Company owned and company operated. The cylinders will be sold at market rates. However, the scheme will be deferred in five poll bound states of Delhi, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. The scheme allows sale of 5 kg LPG cylinders with merely any Proof of Identity through Petrol Stations to attend to demand of students, IT professionals, BPO employees and persons with odd duty timings. The Sale will be done with or without regulator for the first time by charging 1000 rupees for the cylinder and 250 rupees for regulator.
