The government has expressed its commitment to resolve all outstanding issues connected with the Bhopal Gas tragedy on its 25th anniversary. In a statement, the Prime Minister said the government will put in place all precautions and procedures to ensure that such a tragedy never occur again. Dr Manmohan Singh said that the people affected by the catastrophe deserve the government's continued support and sympathy. He said that all issues relating to safe drinking water, clean up of the site of the Bhopal tragedy, will be speeded up and medical research on the issue will be continued.<br/><br/> The Bhopal gas tragedy was an industrial disaster that took place at a Union Carbide pesticide plant. At midnight of 2nd and 3rd December of 1984, the plant accidentally released Methyl Isocyanate (MIC) gas, exposing more than five lakh people to MIC and other chemicals. About 5000 people died following the release of poisonous gas. More than 150,000 people were left severely disabled of whom 20,000 have since died of their injuries. AIR correspondent reports that a number of functions will mark the 25th anniversary of the Bhopal gas tragedy today. <br/><br/>The international campaign for justice in Bhopal has launched a campaign 'blues on wheels' which will highlight the struggle of the victims of Bhopal Gas Tragedy at different places in Delhi today and conclude its journey at Jantar Mantar.<br/><br/>
