Govt expresses disappointment over Rana's acquittal in Mumbai terror attack

India has expressed disappointment over the acquittal of Tahawwur Rana by a Chicago court in 26/11 Mumbai terror attack case. Taking note of the acquittal by the jury, Secretary, Internal Security in the Ministry of Home Affairs, U K Bansal today said in New Delhi that the national investigating agency NIA will decide on filing charge sheet against Rana and Headly in an Indian Court. He said, government will go to the court against the 26/11 accused with its own investigation.Refusing to call the acquittal a setback, Mr. Bansal said, India does not rely overtly on prosecution of terror suspects in other countries. As already reported, a US Federal Court in Chicago has acquitted Pakistani-Canadian Tahawwur Rana in the 26/11 Mumbai attacks case. The court, however, convicted him for providing material support to Pakistan-based terror group Lashker-e-Taiba, LeT and for plotting an attack in Denmark. The 12-member jury announced the verdict at the end of two days of deliberations against Rana, a co-accused in the Mumbai attacks with David Coleman Headley. Pakistani-American Headley was the government's star witness during the trial. The verdict came nearly three weeks of trial of Rana at the Chicago court. 50-year-old Rana, is a military doctor-turned businessman, who opened a visa facilitation office in Mumbai for the LeT operation.
