Government is exploring scientific ways to create artificial rain in the less rainfed areas of the country to enhance the farm yield. In an exclusive interview to All India Radio, the Secetary of Earth Sciences Ministry Dr. Shailesh Nayak said government is seriously considering cloud seeding in rain-deficient districts of the country.He said,for this cloud study is already under way.Mr.Nayak said, initially the experiment is being carried out over rain starved areas in Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. The earth sciences secretary informed that the experiment has entered its second leg and will complete next year at an expenditure of 20 crore rupees.On mitigating the gap in monsoon predictions,Dr Nayak , however, assured that a National Monsoon Mission is in place to improve the monsoon prediction system.
