Union Road Transport, Highways and Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari has said, the Union Government envisages 16 lakh crore rupee investment in the country under the Sagarmala project in the next three years. <br/><br/>Mr Gadkari said this after inaugurating new facilities including a container terminal and a multi-cargo terminal in the Kamarajar Port Ltd at Ennore near Chennai at a cost of around 1,500 crore rupees. <br/><br/>The Minister said, 106 new inland waterways projects have been sanctioned throughout the country. He expressed satisfaction at the pace of highways work that has improved from 2 km per day to 23 kilometer now. <br/><br/>Mr Gadkari said, the Tamil Nadu Government should form a joint venture with the Centre for launching a passenger ferry service from Thiruvananthapuram to Chennai via Kanyakumari. He said the project can later be extended upto Goa. <br/><br/>The Minister promised 200 crore rupees as the Centre's initial corpus for the proposed project.
