Govt emphasizes need for exploiting aluminium resources

Government has emphasised the need for exploiting aluminium resources to meet the long term national goals and perspectives. Minister for Mines B K Handique said in New Delhi today that the resources are the most versatile and sustainable materials for our economy. He was inaugurating a seminar on “Consultation with stakeholders on Aluminium Mission Plan 2010-20”. The Minister said Aluminium has to be integrated into the overall strategy of the country`s economic development. The assured availability of minerals and metals will play an important role to give a competitive edge to the industry. He said that industrial production of aluminium industry is very low in the country at 1.318 millions tonnes compared to world production of 40 million tonnes. India also has a very low capita consumption of 1.3 kg.
