Govt doubles SDRF fund to Rs 61,000 core for 2015-20

The government today it has doubled the allocation to Rs 61,000 core for the State Disaster Response Fund for 2015 to 2020. <br/><br/>Replying to a debate on drought and water crisis in the country, Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh told the Lok Sabha that the Congress had earmarked only Rs 33,580 crore for 2010 to 2014. <br/><br/>He said, the work done by the NDA government in the last two years is beyond comparison with that of Congress during 60 years of rule.<br/><br/>He also informed the House that Food Security Act has been currently implemented in 33 states Union Territories adding that additional foodgrains has been provided to Karnataka and Maharashtra. <br/><br/>He also said, Mid Day Meal scheme will continue in summer vacations also. He said, the criteria for compensation in case of damage to crops was relaxed from 50 per cent to 33 per cent. <br/><br/>The Agriculture Minister said that the compensation in case of death from natural calamities has also been hiked from Rs 1.5 lakh to Rs 4 lakh. Mr Singh said, the government has expedited the work on Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana.
