Health and Family Welfare Ministry has termed an article speculative and misinformed which claimed that Covid 19 mortality in India is higher than official count. This article has published in an international journal.
”
”The Ministry said, often these studies takes into account a relatively small actual sample and extrapolate the result to the entire population. It said, this may achieve near accurate results for a small homogenous country and region but such techniques have failed repeatedly to give reliable results for a large and diverse population. It said, data sources used by this study appears to have been taken from newspaper reports and non-peer reviewed studies.
”
”The Health Ministry said, reporting of deaths is regularly done in a transparent manner and is daily updated in public domain on the website of Health and Family Welfare Ministry. It said, even the backlog in Covid-19 mortality data being submitted by the States at different times is reconciled with the data of Government of India on a regular basis. Furthermore, there is a financial incentive in the country to report Covid-19 deaths as they are entitled to monetary compensation. Terming deaths as a sensitive issue, the Ministry said, this type of speculative reporting has potential to create panic in the community which can misguide people. It said, reporting of death data should be dealt with facts and with required sensitivity.
