Govt dismisses media reports about data collection of students on caste, religion

The government has dismissed the media reports that its has asked for data on caste, religion and Aadhaar from teachers saying that the reports are factually incorrect.

In a statement, Human Resource Development Ministry clarified that no caste data has ever been sought from the teachers. However, it said, the Ministry has been collecting data on SC, ST and OBC category since the beginning of the All India Survey on Higher Education (AISHE) in 2010-11 for the monitoring of reservations.

It said, the same is being collected even this year, and therefore, it is incorrect to say that government has started collecting data from this year. On the issue of Aadhaar, the Ministry clarified that the fear of Aadhaar data being misused is misplaced and the Ministry is against the disclosure of data.
