The government has dismissed certain allegations that appeared in a section of media relating to Consul at Consulate General of India in New York, Dr. Neena Malhotra. <br/><br/>The external affairs spokesperson Mr. Vishnu Prakash today said in New Delhi that the Ministry had looked into the matter. He said, it is understood that Ms. Shanti Gurung, Service Staff of Dr. Neena Malhotra, had disappeared on the eve of latter’s return to India. <br/><br/>Consul Neena brought the matter to CGI’s attention immediately which informed concerned US authorities. He reiterated that media allegations against Dr. Malhotra do not appear to be in conformity with facts.<br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports, Dr. Malhotra’s former maid Shanti Gurung on 1st of this month had filed a federal lawsuit in New York accusing the diplomat of enslaving her and forcing her to work 16 hours a day. <br/><br/>Ms.Gurung’s lawsuit sought unspecified damages, alleging that she had been paid only 120 dollars over 40 months by the Malhotras. <br/><br/>But the diplomat, who is now director of the Southern Division of the Ministry of External Affairs, submitted to her superiors proofs in support of her claim that she had been regularly depositing money in Ms. Gurung’s bank account in Delhi. <br/><br/>The bank statement clearly shows that the maid had been paid at least 5,500 rupees per month by the Malhotras and she has a balance of 2.4 lakh rupees in her account now.
