Govt. dismisses Jamiat fatwa on Vande Matram

The Government has dismissed Jamiat Ulama-e-Hind (JuH) decision to endorse the fatwa on Muslims from reciting Vande Mataram saying it is unacceptable.
Addressing a media interaction in New Delhi today, the minority affairs minister Mr. Salman Khurshid said, he sings the song with passion and full involvement and that he sings it better than many others. He had earlier described the resolution as counter-productive, saying it is neither good for society, nor country and Muslims.
The minister had also cast a doubt whether the resolution was the view of the entire Jamiat, claiming the organisation is divided into two factions.
AIR correspondent reports, the JuH, largest organisation of Sunni Muslims, in its resolution endorsed a 'fatwa' issued by Darul-Uloom of Deoband in 2006, which had declared recital of 'Vande Mataram' as un-Islamic.
