The Central Government is closely monitoring the relief and rescue operations in the six flood affected districts of Odisha. It is also in close touch with the State Government for extending the required support and assistance. According to a Home Ministry release issued today, 10 teams of National Disaster Response Force, NDRF, including 307 men with 60 boats and other accessories have been deployed for the rescue and relief operations. Out of the 10 teams, 6 teams are deployed at Jajpur, 3 at Kendrapara and 1 team at Bhadrak. These teams have already started evacuating the marooned people to safer places.On Saturday, two helicopters, one each from Indian Air Force and Indian Navy, have been deployed for air-dropping of the food packets and rescue operations. On sunday, two more helicopters have been deployed by Air Force.The Defence Minister, Mr. A. K. Antony on Sunday directed the Indian Air Force to step up deployment of their assets in the flood affected areas of Odisha following the State Government's request for increased assistance to mount relief and rescue operations. Seven MI-17 choppers, one Sea King of the Navy and one Cheetah have been detailed for deployment. Two MI-17 and two Chetaks carried out the task on Sunday. These had carried out 15 sorties and had lifted 10.8 tonnes of material when reports last came in. Two choppers at Raipur, two more at Gorakhpur and one at Jagdalpur could not take off because of bad weather. The humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operations will continue tomorrow.
