Government has directed all coal companies to adopt state of art technology to ensure safety in the underground mines.

It has also asked the companies to improve coal production and productivity in the country.

According to an official release, out of the total 271 underground mines of Coal India Limited, 227 mines are already at various stages of modernization.

The remaining mines will also be mechanized soon.
