The Prime Minister today assured the Lok Sabha that the Government will find ways and means to pay the salaries of Air India employees. Intervening during the question hour on the revival of Air India, Dr Manmohan Singh said, the Government is determined to put the national carrier back on a sound footing. Dr Singh said that a Group of Ministers is working on how to salvage Air India in every possible manner. Earlier, the Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Secretariat, V Narayanaswamy informed the House that the turnaround and financial restructuring plans for Air India are presently being looked into by a Group of Officers appointed by the GoM. In the discussion, members were critical of the decision to hand over profitable routes to private operators at the cost of Air India. One of them attributed nepotism and fowl play on the part of its management for the deteriorating services of the national flag carrier.
