Govt. denies shortage of LPG cylinders

The Government today denied any shortage of LPG cylinders but said though backlog of few days in certain states has been reported. The Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas, Murli Deora, in a written reply told the Lok Sabha that the government has reviewed the overall backlog situation and advised the Oil Marketing Companies to take appropriate steps in this regard. He also said the possibility of black marketing and diversion of subsidized domestic LPG cyclinders by some unscrupulous elements cannot be ruled out. He said this is mainly due to the wide gap between the retail price of LPG for domestic use and market price for commercial purposes. He also outlined a number of measures taken by the government for penal action against the erring LPG distributors.
