The Government has rejected the allegations of irregularity in the allocation of coal blocks and termed the charges levelled by the BJP as wild and baseless. The BJP had on Friday accused the UPA Government of being involved in a black gold scam, claiming that pay-offs worth more than Rs 75,000 crore were made in allocation of coal blocks between 2006 and 2009.An official release in New Delhi said the suggestion that there was any rush in coal allotments, prior to the auction route, is completely untrue. It said no fresh coal blocks have been offered for allocation under the existing system since the introduction of a draft Bill to bring in transparency in the allotments.Refuting the charges, the Coal Ministry said not a single coal block was allotted without the consent of the State Government, where it is located. It said the allotment was done in a transparent manner by the UPA Government.
