Govt. denies interfering in functioning of Madrassas

The government has denied that it is trying to interfere in the functioning of Madrassas . Talking to media persons in New Delhi today, the Minority and the Corporate Affairs Minister, Mr. Salman Khurshid said that government , in fact, is encouraging employment-oriented education in Madrassas.<br/> The minister said, government has accepted almost 95 per cent of the Sachchar Committee recommendations, including the setting up of an Equal Opportunity Commission,EOC, to better the lot of minorities. He said the government has decided to appoint National Monitors by the year end to assess works being done in Minority Concentrated Districts .<br/> Terming the Equal Opportunity Commission bill as a threshold and milestone legislation, Mr. Khurshid said the government plans to get it passed by Parliament in the winter session beginning Thursday.<br/> Acknowledging that ensuring affirmative action in private sector is a difficult area, the minister said, EOC can suo motto take note of the lack of it in institutions and may suggest the government to take corrective actions.<br/> He also said individual parties can approach the court with EOC's findings, which will be based on comprehensive data for which the Commission will have a data bank.Referring to reservation issue, Khurshid said the UPA government is committed to a sustainable model of reservation for backward Muslims, after getting the court's endorsement.<br/>
