Home Minister P Chidamabaram and Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal have strongly denied allegation by former Telecom Minister A Raja that the Prime Minister and then Finance Minister had endorsed Unitech and Swan's decision to rope in foreign partners. Mr Chidamabaram said the only issue examined by him as Finance Minister in 2007 and by the Prime Minister was if the two new licensees- Swan and Unitech, were divesting by selling their stakes or diluting shares through issue of fresh equities. Talking to journalists in New Delhi, he said foreign partners were inducted by Swan and Unitech by way of dilution that is issue of fresh equities. Chidambaram's comments came soon after former telecom minister A Raja told a Delhi court that the issue of sale of equity by spectrum licensees was discussed with the PM and Chidambaram in 2007. Meanwhile, Telecom Minister Kapil Sibal said it was unfortunate that BJP was demanding resignation of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Home Minister P Chidambaram on the basis of arguments made by former telecom minister A Raja, who himself is an accused in 2G scam case.
