Govt defers Fertiliser Ministry's proposal to hike urea prices by 10%

The government today deferred the Fertiliser Ministry's proposal to hike retail prices of urea by 10 per cent to 5,841 rupees per tonne for the 2012-13 fiscal. Home Minister P Chidambaram told reporters after the Cabinet Committee of Economic Affairs, CCEA meeting that the proposal on urea price increase has gone back to the ministry to take a second look at it.

Urea is the only fertiliser that remains under full price control. Its current retail price is 5,310 rupees per tonne.
