The Government today defended its decision to grant visa permit to former Pakistan cricket captain Javed Miandad to visit India for the ongoing one-day match series. Talking to reporters in New Delhi, External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid said that the Ministry of Home Affairs issued the visa after due dilligence. He also said that all procedures for visa requirements were fulfilled before granting the visa to Miandad and that he was not on any prohibited list. Miandad would arrive in India on 5th of this month to watch the third and final ODI between the two neighbours in New Delhi the next day. He is related to the underworld don Dawood Ibrahim who is wanted in India in connection with the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts case. Miandad's son Junaid Miandad is married to Dawood's daughter Mahrukh Ibrahim.
