The government has decided to extend the suspension of operation against United Peoples Democratic Solidarity, UPDS for a further period of six months for establishing permanent peace in Assam. According to a Home Ministry press release, the suspension of operations will continue till the end of October this year. The UPDS has been operating in the Karbi Anglong district of Assam and is having tripartite talks with Assam government and the Centre to seek the redressal of their grievances. The press release says that the talks are continuing. AIR correspondent reports that, the last round of talks was held on 26th of July, 2006.
