Government has slashed borrowing target for the period from April-September by 16,000 crore rupees with the objective to provide more liquidity in the system. The borrowing plan has been pruned by 10,000 crore rupees for the first half. This would be over and above 6,000 crore rupees announced earlier. However, the borrowing amount for the entire fiscal would remain unchanged at 5.97 lakh crore rupees.
