Govt. creates non-lapsable fund for railways in north-east

The government has created a dedicated non-lapsable fund to expedite development of rail network in the North Eastern region of the country.

The Railway Ministry sources said, this will ensure enough fund flows to National Rail projects in northeast region.

Railways have also taken up 12 new lines, four gauge conversion and two doubling projects to increase connectivity in the region.

More than one thousand, nine hundred crore rupees have been allotted for these projects in the current fiscal. Seventy-Six kilometres of new line section and 165 kilometres of gauge conversion has to be completed in this period.
