Govt convenes all party meeting ahead of Monsoon Session

Government convened an All Party Meeting today to seek support of Opposition parties in the passage of pending legislations during the Monsoon session of Parliament beginning tomorrow. <br/><br/>Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Ministers Rajnath Singh, Arun Jaitley, Ananth Kumar, and Congress MPs Ghulam Nabi Azad, Mallikarjun Kharge, Anand Sharma were among those who attended the meet. <br/><br/>NCP leaders Tariq Anwar and D P Tripathi, Samajwadi Party MP Naresh Agarwal and BSP MP Satish Mishra were also present. <br/><br/>Talking to media, Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad said Congress will let the bills pass on basis of merit. He said party will support any bill which will be in the interest of nation, people and growth.<br/><br/>Mr Azad said situation in Jammu and Kashmir is a very serious issue which must be discussed in Parliament and government should be answerable.<br/><br/>CPI(M) leader Sitaram Yechury said party has been requesting the government since two years to call an all party meet to discuss GST bill to form consensus. He said the bill is not a matter to be settled bilaterally between BJP and Congress.<br/><br/>Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan has also convened an All Party Meeting today to ensure smooth functioning of Parliament.

Govt convenes all party meeting ahead of Monsoon session

Government has called an all party meeting on Sunday to seek the support of opposition parties in the passage of pending legislations during the Monsoon session of Parliament beginning Monday.<br/><br/>Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan has also convened an all party meeting on the same day to ensure smooth functioning of Parliament.<br/><br/>The session will have 20 working days and will conclude on the 12th of next month. <br/><br/>A total of 25 bills including crucial Goods and Services Tax (GST) bill are expected to come up for passing and consideration during the session. <br/><br/>AIR correspondent reports that the government has reached out to the main opposition party for the passage of GST Bill while Congress is also fine tuning its strategy on the legislation. <br/><br/>Ahead of the session, top Congress leaders met party chief Sonia Gandhi and Vice President Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi on Saturday and chalked out strategy on crucial issues, including the GST Bill. <br/><br/>Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, Ghulam Nabi Azad and other senior party leaders including Anand Sharma and Jyotiraditya Scindia attended the meeting.<br/><br/>This came a day after, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar had a meeting with Mr. Azad and Anand Sharma. <br/><br/>The two Ministers discussed all points to bring Congress on board on GST bill.<br/><br/>The opposition party is also expected to corner the government in Parliament on the recent Arunachal Pradesh issue in the wake of the Supreme Court judgment reinstating the Congress regime in the state.
