Govt. convenes all-party meet on Women's Reservation Bill

An all-party meeting will be held in New Delhi on Monday to find a way out of the impasse on the Women's Reservation Bill. The Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee, who is Leader of the Lok Sabha, has convened the meeting as government wants an early resolution of the deadlock.

The Bill which has already been passed by the Rajya Sabha by an overwhelming majority could not be introduced in the Lok Sabha because of opposition by members of the RJD, SP and JD(U).

The BSP has also voiced its opposition to the Bill. The Law Minister Mr Veerappa Moily ruled out changes in the Bill saying that the government will go ahead with the Bill in its original form. The Bill provides 33 per cent reservation for women in Lok Sabha and state assemblies. The leaders of the SP, RJD and JD (U) want quota within quota.
