Govt convenes all-party meet ahead of Winter Session of Parliament

The All party meeting convened by the government on the eve of the Winter Session of Parliament is underway at Parliament House in New Delhi. <br/><br/>The meeting is being attended by Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar, Mulayam Singh Yadav of Samajwadi Party, Mohd. Saleem of CPI(M) among others. <br/><br/>The meeting is usually held ahead of every session to seek the cooperation of political parties to ensure smooth functioning of both the Houses of Parliament. <br/><br/>Later in the evening, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan has also called a meeting of floor leaders of different political parties to discuss the smooth functioning of the House. <br/><br/>Earlier, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar had sought cooperation from all parties to make the session fruitful. <br/><br/>Opposition parties also had a meeting in the Chamber of Leader of Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad to chalk out a strategy to counter the government on various issues. <br/><br/>The meeting was attended among others by Mallikarjun Kharge of Congress, Farooq Abdullah of National Conference, Derek O' Brien of TMC, D Raja of CPI and Jai Prakash Narayan Yadav of RJD.

Govt convenes all-party meet ahead of Winter Session of Parliament

The Government has convened an all party meeting today, ahead of Winter Session of Parliament beginning tomorrow.<br/><br/>During the meeting the government will seek co-operation of political parties to ensure smooth functioning of both the Houses of Parliament.<br/><br/>Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan has also called a meeting of floor leaders of different political parties today evening to discuss smooth functioning of the House. Earlier, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar had sought cooperation from all parties to make the session fruitful.<br/><br/>Important Bills including on Triple Talaq and constitutional status to the Backward Class Commission are expected to be taken up for passage during the session.<br/><br/>The leaders of key opposition parties are also meeting today to work out their floor strategy to corner the government on several issues during the session. The meeting will be chaired by the Leader of the Opposition in the Rajya Sabha Ghulam Nabi Azad will be attended by the leaders of Left parties, SP, BSP, NCP and others. The session which will continue till the 5th of next month, will have 14 sittings.
