Govt constitutes High Level Review committee deal with railways safety

Government has constituted a High Level Review committee to deal with safety related issues of the railways. The step has been taken to prepare a road map to tackle consequential accidents.

The Committee will be headed by the former Chairman of Atomic Energy Commission Dr. Anil Kakodkar.Talking to newsmen in New Delhi today Railway Minister Mr. Dinesh Trivedi said , the committee will submit its report in three months. He said that the committee would examine aspects relating to signaling systems, rolling stocks, fixed structures including human resource development. Mr.Trivedi said that upgrading infrastructure and ensuring passenger safety have been the prime concern of the railways. The Railway Minister said that Indian Railways would make all efforts to address the recommendations of High Level Committee with a view to achieve further improvement in the safety environment on the Indian Railways.

AIR correspondent reports, Dr. Kakodkar will be assisted by Dr. N. Vedachalam of Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre, Thiruvananthapuram, Director of IIT Kanpur Prof. Sanjay Dhande and Director of E and I Group, Bhabha Atomic Research Centre Mr. G. P. Srivastava. The Managing Director of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation Mr. E. Sreedharan will be advisor of the committee.
