Government has constituted a Committee under the Chairmanship of Indian Council of Social Science Research Chairman, Prof. S.K. Thorat to review the educationally inappropriate material in Social Science textbooks of NCERT from class 9th to 12th.

In a statement, Human Resources Development Minister Kapil Sibal said, the Committee will provide suggestions for alternatives to be placed in the textbooks.

Mr. Sibal's statement came in the wake of some media reports regarding statements by leaders from Tamil Nadu in connection with a cartoon on anti-Hindi movement in the NCERT text books. He said, the Committee will submit its report shortly.
