Govt constitutes apex council for providing broad policy guidelines to improve ST community

Government has constituted an apex council headed by the Prime Minister for providing broad policy guidelines to improve the lot of scheduled Tribe community in the country. According to a notification issued by Rashtrapati Bhawan, 17 members include Ministers of Tribal affairs, finance, agriculture, home, Environment & Forest and Rural development. The notification says, the high level committee is empowered to review implementation of forest rights acts, monitor implementation of tribal sub-plan and programmes to protect tribal subgroups. It further says, the meeting of the apex council can be linked with the meetings of national development council to ensure that they are held regularly and respective chief minister of the states are present in the meeting. The government is has also constituted a standing committee headed by the Tribal Affairs Minister, Kantilal Bhuria to coordinate and oversee the implementation of the programmes meant for up-lift of tribal community .
