The government is considering a proposal to set up 20 new Indian Institutes of Information Technology (IIIT) in public-private-partnership. Giving this information in the Lok Sabha today, the Minister of State for Information Technology, Mr Sachin Pilot said the government has taken several initiatives for capacity building in certain niche areas to meet the emerging needs of the knowledge-based industry. He said that a target of training 10 million people by 2022 for providing IT skills has also been set. He said Software Technology Parks have already been set up in 51 centres across the country, out of which seven are in metro cities while 44 centres are in other cities.
