Govt condemns BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj's remarks on Nathuram Godse

Government today condemned BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj controversial remarks that Nathuram Godse was a patriot like Mahatma Gandhi. Talking to reporters outside Parliament, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that praising the killer of Mahatma Gandhi is not acceptable whether it is from BJP MPs or others. He said that if someone makes such a remark, it proves that he has no knowledge of Indian culture and ethos. Mr Naqvi said no one can justify the comments. Sakshi Maharaj had said that Godse was a nationalist. However, he later denied as having said anything in praise of Godse.

Meanwhile, BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj today apologized in the Lok Sabha for his remarks on Nathuram Godse. His apology comes in the wake of demand from opposition parties, who wanted suspension of the question hour.
