Government expressed concern over recent incidents of alleged discrimation and crime against students from Northeast in campuses. HRD Minister Kapil Sibal said in New Delhi that educational institutions should rise to the occasion to provide an inclusive and harmonious platform for students from across the country to come together and pursue studies. HRD Ministry officials said, Mr Sibal had last month requested UGC to formulate regulations to prevent discrimination in higher educational institutions.
