The Government today said that it is committed to the welfare and improving working conditions of the labour class in the country. This was stated by the minister of Labour and Employment Mallikarjun Kharge after inaugurating the 23rd National Convention of building construction, forest and wood workers in New Delhi. Mr Kharge said that the government is making all efforts to increase minimum wages of workers involved in social security schemes like MGNREGA and ensure quality of their daily life. The minister stressed the need for creating awareness about various labour laws and their implemention at the state level to benefit maximum number of people.

The minister, however, expressed dissatifaction over the fact that many state governments are not taking serious interest in labour welfare schemes.
