Govt committed to the safety, security of air travelers even while augmenting the connectivity: Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia

Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has said, the Government is committed to the safety and security of air travelers even while augmenting the connectivity. Answering a question in the Lok Sabha on the recent Calicut Airport accident, he said the Airport Accidents Investigation Bureau has submitted its report, which is being studied by a specially constituted committee. He said, necessary corrective steps would be taken based on its recommendations.<br />''<span style="color: #222222;"> <br />''When asked about the proposal to establish an airport in Durgapur as the alternative airport to Kolkata, Mr Scindiya said the location is about 180 kilometers away from the capital city of West Bengal. He said such a long distance would not be in the interests of the travelers, terming the location as not feasible. The Minister appealed to the West Bengal government to work in cooperation with the Centre for the development of the state, adding that the Centre and the State cannot work at odds. While referring to the expansion of Bagdogra Airport, he said, out of the 104 acres of land sought for, 98 acres are yet to be handed over  by the state administration.</span><br />
