Home Minister P Chidambaram has said that there has been a desperate attempt by Pakistan to infiltrate terrorists into Jammu and Kashmir to foment violence. Addressing a news conference in Srinagar today, he said infiltration from Pakistan and Pakistan occupied Kashmir is solely responsible for violence in the state. Mr. Chidambaram said security forces are doing better to contain the influx of terrorists into the country though groups across the border are recruiting young men and brainwashing them to pursue Jehad and create mayhem in India. He said however, there has been a marked improvement in law and order situation in Jammu and Kashmir. Mr. Chidambaram said the government's policy is that there should be zero tolerance for violence.<br/><br/>In reply to a question he said there is an organized effort in Pakistan and Pakistan -occupied Kashmir behind the fake currency business. He said the security agencies had some success in tracking its routes and will continue to counter it.<br/><br/>Lauding the efforts of various security forces in Jammu and Kashmir, he said the role of army is important as they<br/><br/>defend the border and Line of Control and they would be assisted by the Border Security Forces. The Home Minister said the Jammu and Kashmir Police have the responsibility to maintain law and order and they have been doing well in showing leadership capabilities. <br/><br/>Asked if the paramilitary forces would be withdrawn from the state, he said the requirement of paramilitary forces would depend on the situation. Home Minister said the Government will hold talks with every section of political opinion in the state through quiet dialogue, quiet diplomacy to find a political solution to the Kashmir problem that may be unique. He said, once the broad contours of a political solution are arrived at, it will be made public at an appropriate time. He said such a solution, should be honourable and acceptable to the vast majority of the people in Jammu and Kashmir.<br/><br/>In reply to a question on the Prime Minister's comprehensive economic reconstruction plan worth 25000 crore rupees ,Mr. Chidambaram said a mechanism is being put in place for close monitoring and speeding up of various projects under the plan.
