Govt committed to providing equal rights, opportunities for women: Venkaiah Naidu

Information and Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu has said that women empowerment, emancipation and equality were the three critical factors defining the role of women in Nation's Development. He said, government stood committed in providing equal rights and opportunities for women and girl through multiple initiatives. <br/><br/>He also expressed concern over the stereotypical portrayal of women in movies which led to increased objectification. Mr Naidu was speaking at an event organized in New Delhi today on the occasion of completion of 100 episodes of flagship programme for women 'Tejaswini', produced by Doordarshan News. <br/><br/>Speaking on the occasion, Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi said, the Centre is continuously striving towards all round empowerment of women. She said, to give women a safe environment, a network of One Stop Centres across the country is being set up which will provide legal, medical, police and counseling assistance to women who are in distress situations. <br/><br/>She said, Over 60 such centres have already been setup in the country and gradually there will be one such centre in each district. Ms Gandhi said that the Ministry has also set up a Grievance Redressal Cell with a dedicated e-mail to receive complaints from women needing help. <br/><br/>Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Col. Rajyavardhan Rathore was also present on the occasion.
