Govt committed to provide subsidized food grains to address malnutrition in the country

The Government today said it is committed to provide subsidized food grains to address malnutrition and hunger in the country.

This was stated by Food and Consumer Affairs minister K V Thomas while addressing a workshop on 'Best Practices in Public Distribution System and Food Fortification' in New Delhi .

Mr Thomas said that his government has undertaken various measures over the last decade to bring effectiveness and transparency and to improve the reach of the food-based social safety nets including PDS . He said that country has reached a comfortable position in food grain production and its procurement.

AIR correspondent reports that the workshop aims at to provide a concensus and a follow up plan for implementing 'best practices' in strengthening Targated Public Distribution System,TDPS and integrating food fortification.
