‘Govt. committed to promote Sanskrit’

The government is committed to promote and develop Sanskrit language.

The Prime Minister today said that a number of measures are being taken to encourage the study of Sanskrit language in the country.

Dr. Manmohan Singh was inaugurating the 15th World Sanskrit Conference in New Delhi.

He said that Sanskrit has some of the greatest classics of world literature and is a treasure of knowledge on Mathematics, Medicine, Botany, Chemistry, Art and Humanities.

Dr. Singh further said that Sanskrit does not belong to any particular race, sect or religion.

The Prime Minister said that it represents a culture that is not narrow and sectarian but open, tolerant and all-embracing.

He said the liberalism and tolerance imbedded in Sanskrit must be inculcated in our present day life.

The Human Resource Development Minister Mr. Kapil Sibal said that Sanskrit is being promoted not only in India but other countries are also adopting and encouraging it as it is one of the oldest languages in the world.
