Government on Tuesday renewed its commitment to pass a strong Lokpal Bill in the winter session of Parliament. This is to firmly deal with the menace of corruption. Talking to reporters in New Delhi, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pawan Bansal expressed hope that Standing Committee on Lokpal Bill will submit its report during the session.
Charging the BJP with politicizing the Lokpal issue, Mr. Bansal said that the party has no consistent stand on corruption. He urged Anna Hazare who is spearheading the movement against corruption to create awareness about corruption rather than politicizing the issue.
Congress has also said that it is committed for the passage of a strong Lokpal Bill. Talking to reporters in New Delhi, party spokesperson Janardan Dwivedi added that Hazare is a veteran social activist and he should have faith in the Parliament which will come out with a robust anti-corruption watchdog.
On the other hand, BJP said that it welcomes all the voices raised by social groups and political parties against corruption. Party spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman said that party is for a strong Lokpal and its stand is clear on the issue ever since it was raised.
Earlier in the day, Anna Hazare said in his native village in Maharashtra that he will campaign against Congress party in election-bound states if the Centre fails to get his version of the anti- corruption bill passed in Parliament's Winter session. He announced that he will begin his tour of five election-bound states of Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, Goa and Manipur between October 13 and 15. Mr. Hazare elaborated that he has no intention to join electoral politics.
