The Government says it is committed to launch a National Mission on socio-economic empowerment of women. The focus will be to empower women at social, economic and educational level. In a statement laid in the Rajya Sabha, the Women and Child Development Minister, Mrs. Krishna Tirath said, that the Mission will be endeavouring to achieve empowerment of women by securing convergence of various schemes and programmes launched by different ministries. She informed the house that the government also proposes to appoint a high level committee to study socio-economic status of women to guide the government about the interventions required for their holistic empowerment. She also gave the details of the status of women and programmes and the funds earmarked for their welfare. She expresses hope that with these measures in place, the gender discrimination in the society will come to an end.
