Govt clarifies there is adequate availability of fertilizers in the country to meet needs of farmers during Rabi season

Government today clarified that there is adequate availability of fertilizers in the country to meet the needs of the farmers during the current Rabi season.

It termed the media reports claiming shortage of fertilizers in Trichy, Tamil Nadu and Rajasthan as beyond the facts.

The Chemicals and Fertilizers Ministry said the Centre is providing Urea, DAP, Muriate of Potash ( MOP), NPKS and SSP fertilizers as per the need of all states.

The Ministry said, it is the responsibility of respective state governments to ensure availability within the states.

In a statement, the Ministry said the all-India requirement projected for urea during the current Rabi season is over 180 Lakh Metric Tonnes (LMT).  

The pro-rata requirement up to 16th of this month is over 57 LMT against which the Centre has ensured an availability of over 92 LMT.

The Ministry said, there is an available stock of over one Lakh Metric Tonnes at the Urea Plants and over five Lakh Metric Tonnes at ports. With regard to DAP, the all-India requirement projected is over 55 LMT.

The pro-rata requirement up to 16th of this month is around 27 LMT against which the Ministry has ensured an-availability of around 37 LMT.  The country's requirement projected for MOP during the season is over 14 LMT.  

The Ministry has made available over eight Lakh Metric Tonnes so far. For NPKS, the requirement projected is around 57  LMT against which an availability of around 41 LMT has been ensured till 16th of this month.

The requirement projected for SSP is around 34 LMT  against which an availability of around 25 LMT has been ensured.
